How to prepare your linen for storage

It is vital to only use acid-free boxes to avoid potential damage, discolouration and deterioration caused by acids which leech out of common cardboard boxes.

If you must use plastic tubs, be sure to choose only tubs made from chemically inert polyethylene as other types of plastic break down over time, releasing gases which can harm your linens. Add a few sachets of silica desiccant to control moisture levels inside the tub, but make sure these do not come into direct contact with your linen and bedding.

Polyethylene vacuum bags are good for keeping moisture out of table cloths,blankets, sheets, duvet covers and pillow slips, but are not recommended for pillows as they cause deep creases and misshape your pillows.

Make an inventory of all your linen and bedding. Keep matching sets together and be sure to label every box, so that you know which items are stored where. This will make it much easier to find the bedding you’re after when you need it.
